ROSETTA STONE: March 12th to 16th

This week you need to complete the first half of Unit 4 of your language study.  Your current Benchmark Grade in on http://www.mygradebook.com/ - check it.  If you are behind, and several of you are, you need to spend some time over Spring Break and catch up.  As your language gets harder you will fall further and further behind.  Soon, you will not be able to catch up and save your credit which means you will have to repeat the language.  There is no reason that anyone should not earn an A or a B in language.

JA 7 HISTORY: March 12th to 16th

PROJECT WEEK:
This week you will be working on a major semester project.  Some of you need to do a good job so you can raise your low homework scores.  Projects are 25% of your grade!  This will be a Newspaper Special Edition on Reconstruction.  You will be given the actual format, so all papers look the same.  This project is due on Friday.  If you are absent, it must still be turned in either Thursday or have it dropped off on Friday by someone.
Monday: You will be given most of the hour to write 3 newspaper articles on the 3 different reconstruction plans: Lincoln's, Johnson's, and the Radical Republicans.  As a class we will write an introductory text section that your articles will follow.  In the last 20 minutes of class, using the LCD projector, you will see how the format was set up and how you can do this on your own in the future.
Tuesday: You will be given 1/2 of the hour to complete articles or research for photos by using Google Images with the words, reconstruction era.  Then you will begin to use Microsoft Word to format the articles into the framework given.  You will learn to insert photos, maps, justify  the right hand side of text, how to wrap text around photos or maps, and article titles.
Wednesday - Thursday: Computer lab for typing newspaper.
Friday: Review of projects and AR reading time.  We are 1/2 way through the semester and you should have 50% of your goal done.

JA 8 HISTORY: March 12th to 16th

We have learned about Hitler's aim to spread German control over Austria, Czechoslovakia including the Sudetenland, Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, and France.  This gave him control of Western Europe except for Britain.  We learned last week about the Battle of Britain which the British won.  Now Hitler will shift to the east and try to gain control of the Soviet Union (Russia).  This invasion is called Operation Barbarossa. We will be studying this battle and its consequences most of the week.
Monday - Tuesday:  Readings and discussion of the various parts fo the battle.  We will also use various websites.  There will be questions given that will be due on Thursday.
Wednesday - Thursday: Video of "Operation Barbarossa."  Quiz on your knowledge of this attack.  Essay for Friday on Hitler's fatal mistakes and why this was a turning point in World War 2 in Europe.
Friday:  What you don't know about North Korea?  A current world topic just before Spring Break.

ROSETTA STONE: March 5th to 9th

Due to computer and internet issues that occured last week.  The second half of Unit 3 of your language study should be completed by this Friday. 

JA 7 HISTORY: March 5th to 9th

Monday - Tuesday: The Movie, Andersonville.  Historically true movie of the conditions and life at the Andersonville Prison during the Civil War.
Wednesday - Friday:  RECONSTUCTION- How to rebuild the nation as one again once the South was defeated.  We will read about the 3 different plans proposed: Abraham Lincoln's Plan, Andrew Johnson's Plan, and the Radical Republican Plan.  We will read about each of these plans.  You will be asked to write a short article on each plan telling the what, how, when and why of each.  Next week we will put these articles into newspaper form as a project.  You will learn some new features of Microsoft Word - how to justify and wrap text alongside photos, and how to make columns as seen in newspapers.

JA 8 HISTORY: March 5th to 9th

This week we will investigate the Invasion of France once Hitler had Poland under his control and we will concentrate on the evacuation of British and French troops from Dunkirk.  We will finish the week by looking at the "blitz of London" often called the Battle of Britain.

Monday:  The Invasion of France.  Once Poland was under Hitler's control his next target would be France, but how would  he attack this stronger enemy?  Readings, discussions, and video. 
Tuesday:  The Evacuation of British and French troops at Dunkirk.  What did  it mean to Britain and France?  Small group work in class.  Graded.
Wednesday - Friday:  The Battle of Britain or the Blitz of Britain.  What was Hitler's plan and why he commenced bombing the southern cities of England.  We will look at how the British fought back and the introduction of radar.  There will be several readings, video clips, and discussion session over these three days.  There will be homework assignments on The Battle of Britain.

ROSETTA STONE: Feb. 27th to March 2nd


This week all student need to complete their 3rd Unit of study in their chosen foreign language.  Those that are behind, you definitely need to catch up by working on the program at home.  It will be more difficult to catch up later in the semester.  Remember:
8 Units = A
7 Units = B
6 Units = C
5 Units = D
4 or less Units = F

JA 7 HISTORY: Feb. 27th to March 2

This week we will finish our investigation of Lincoln's assassination and finish the Civil War by looking at what took place in Prisoner of War camps in the North and the South.

Monday - Tuesday: We will finish our reading of the events of the assassination.  Then we will watch a video from the American Experience by PBS. There will be no homework on the assassination.

Wednesday -  Elmira: the most famous of the Union camps for prisoner of war.  Readings and discussions.
Thursday - Friday: Andersonville.  The infamous and notorious Confederate camp to house captured Union soldiers.  Readings and discussion with questions that will be due on Monday.

JA 8 HISTORY: Feb. 27th to March 2nd

We will begin our study of World War II this week
Monday: We will finish the Bill of Rights assignment you were given on Friday by breaking into small groups and decide as a group which amendment is most important to it.  Then we will switch to Causes of World War II.  You can watch the powerpoint by clicking on the link.    PowerPoint: Causes of WW II
                                                     
Tuesday - Friday:  Examination of the Causes that lead to World War II. You will have readings and be asked to evaluate the causes in a writing and question worksheet.  This assignment will be due on Monday of next week.
