JA 8 A HISTORY: May 26th to June 3rd

This is the final post for this school year. It is broken down into the last two weeks.
May 26th -29th: We will finish this year studying the purpose and works of the United Nations from its inception to current times. There will be readings with questions and work on the U.N. website at www.un.org/Pubs/CyberSchoolBus/. The General Assembly, the Security Council, and U.N. Agencies will be our focus.
June 1st - 3rd: Review for our post test on Monday. All students will take the post test on Tuesday; we will grade in class and compare with the pretest. Wednesday, a special activity.
JA 7 B HISTORY: May 26th to June 3rd

This will be the final post for the school year. It is broken down for the last two weeks.
May 26th - 29: We continue our study of how mankind changes the enviroment and what it means for future generations. This week we look at rainforests. We will be using two websites: www.nature.org/rainforests/ and www.rainforestconcern.org/ . We will also view three 20 minute films. The first is about the indigenous people of the rainforest and how they care for their environment; the second is about how others exploit and destroy the rainforests, and the third is on the future of the rainforest.
June 1st - 3rd: Review for our post test on Monday. Tuesday all students will take the test and we will grade and compare with our pretest. Wednesday, a special activity.

ROSETTA STONE: May 26th to June 3rd
Your grade is determined by the Units completed as follows: 8 Units = A, 7 Units = B, 6 Units = C, 5 Units = D, and 4 or less Units = F. You have easily had time to finish 8 Units even with down time and the fact that this program is available at home. You will receive the grade you have earned.
STREET LAW: May 26th to June 3rd

This will be the last post for this school year. I have devided it into the final two weeks. I hope you have learned a lot about consumer law and the responsibilities that adulthood bring.
May 26th - 29th: Our focus will be the final chapter of the book, #43, "Working For A Living", pages 542 - 567. We will cover and discuss 8 pages a day as we take time to do our Final Project for this class. You will be given time during class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to answer questions on the direction sheet. Friday we will have a round table discussion about the information you discovered and your opinions. The final step in the project is a letter to be written for Monday, June 1st. NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE TAKEN AS THEY WILL BE GRADED IMMEDIATELY.

JA 8 A HISTORY: May 11th to 15th

We continue our study of the Vietnam War. Monday through Wednesday time will be given in class to research and begin preparation for your project that is due on MONDAY, May 18th.
MONDAY: We will finish our examination of the website http://www.vietnampix.com/ and look at photos from other websites listed in my academic link list.
TUESDAY: We will examine the topic of the Vietnamese tunnels and the tunnel rats. Both sites are listed in the academic link list.
WEDNESDAY: We will view the first half of a movie on the Vietnam War on Discovery Streaming.
THURSDAY: We will view the second half of the movie on the Vietnam War from Discovery Streaming.
FRIDAY: We will tie up loose ends of our projects and any class material we have not finished. Everyone should have their material in class to make final adjustments and preparations.

JA 7 B HISTORY: May 11th to 15th

Your projects are DUE. Presentations will be given on Monday and Tuesday.
WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY: We will look at the totalitarian dictators who rose to power after World War I and the Great Depression. Wednesday - Mussolini of Italy, Thursday - Hitler of Germany, and Friday - Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union. We will examine the similarities of these three leaders, as there were many. We will watch some short video segments to get an idea of their personalities and demeanor. There may be a handout of questions on each to make sure that you are listening to our readings and discussions.

This week you should finish Unit 7 in your language studies. If you are behind this pace, you are running out of time to catch up. You should be working on the program at home and at free moments in school at http://telesisprep.onlinelanguagelearning.com/. You determine your grade by the number of units completed as the program monitors your work to move on ahead at scores of 85%. - 8 Units = A

STREET LAW: May 11th to 15th
This week our topics will be DUE PROCESS and THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY.
Monday - Wednesday: Reading of Chapter 41, "Due Process" pages 484 -489. Discussion of problems presented in the textbook. Chapter Quiz. Tuesday, you will be given a handout entitled, "Due Process of Law: Procedural and Substantive Issues" along with questions to answer from the reading. These questions will be due on Thursday. On Wednesday, we will look at several items under the glencoe website on the issue of right to die and debate opinions in class.
Thursday - Friday: Reading of Chapter 41, "Right to Privacy" pages 490 - 498. Chapter Quiz.
We will examine further readings about this constitutional issue.

We continue our study of the Cold War. YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED YOUR SECOND PROJECT THIS WEEK WHICH WILL BE DUE ON MONDAY, MAY 18TH.
MONDAY: We will read about the Arms Race and look at photos and film of the concern about a nuclear war.
TUESDAY: We will watch the film, On the Beach to understand the attitude of the society of the time about the threat of this type of war.
WEDNESDAY -FRIDAY: You will be given your topics for your second project. We will discuss and read about the start of the Vietnam War - originally a war of the French and how we got involved. There will be time given in class for research on your project. We will use http://www.vietnampix.com/ in class as a basis for our study.

This week we will finish our Unit on the Great Depression Era. Your second project is due next Monday.
MONDAY: You will be given a group of photos. You will select one and write a story that incorporates what we have studied about the depression and the Dust Bowl. This story should be at least two pages, but NOT more than 3. Story is due on WEDNESDAY at the end of the hour.
TUESDAY: Special viewing of the movie, Fly Boys which we did not have time for when we were covering World War I.
WEDNESDAY: Work hour on either your story or your project.
THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Our topic of study will be the "New Deal" of President Roosevelt that helped ease the strain of the Depression. There will be a worksheet on the Programs of the New Deal.

ROSETTA STONE Ind. Studies: May 4th to 8th
This week you should be working on Unit 7 of your language. By the end of this week you should complete the first 22 lessons in the unit. If you are behind you need to work on the program at home by going to http://telesisprep.onlinelanguagelearning.com to view your lessons.
STREET LAW: May 4th to 8th

This week we continue our study of Unit 6, Constitutional Law.
MONDAY: Chapter 39, "Expresssion in Special Places" pages 472 - 476. Each student will select a topic from the Cases and Resources to research after reading this short chapter. You will write about the 4 W's - the who, why, when, and where of the case or topic you choose. This assignment will be due at the end of the class on Wednesday.
TUESDAY: Viewing of the film, Runaway Jury. Film will be finished on Wednesday in first 30 minutes.
WEDNESDAY: Assignment from Monday is due at the end of the hour. We will begin to read Chapter 40, "Freedom of Religion" pages 477 - 483.
THURSDAY - FRIDAY: We will finish our reading of Chapter 40 and you will research into cases that have defined our right to freedom of religion. Your assignment is to respond to the senarios presented in "You Be The Judge" on page 483. This assignment will be due on Monday of next week.

JA 8 A HISTORY: April 27th to May 1st

MONDAY: We will begin our study of the Cuban Missile Crisis that was part of the Cold War. There will be in-class readings and discussions.
TUESDAY - THURSDAY: Viewing of the movie, Thirteen Days starring Kevin Cosner as Kennedy's personal aid. Depicts in historical way, the events of those 13 days. There may be questions to answer. We will also use http://library.thinkquest.org/11046/days/index.html as part of our study
FRIDAY: The assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The where, why, and who of those involved. There will be questions to answer on this topic that will be due on Monday of next week. DON'T FORGET YOUR HOMEWORK.
JA 7 B HISTORY: April 27th to May 1st

MONDAY - TUESDAY: We will watch video clips from Google Video on Charlie Chaplan, Clara Bow, Laurel and Hardy, Al Jolson. In sports we will see Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, and Red Grange. We will also see the Charleston and Lindy Hop as danced in the 1920's. We will see footage of Al Capone and the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY: We will use a powerpoint to lead us into the Great Depression that began on Oct. 29th, 1929. We will do some in class reading and pictures.

This week you should complete Unit 6 and be ready to start Unit 7 next week. If you are behind, you need to be working on the program outside of class. MONDAY: Chapter 36, "Introduction to Constitutional Law" pages 441 - 444. Group discussions and whole-class discussion after.
TUESDAY - WEDNESDAY: Chapter 37, "Freedom of Speech" pages 445 - 464. Reading, discussion, and essay writing on one of several topics. We will look at cases that have impacted our freedom of speech.
THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Chapter 38, "Freedom of the Press" pages 465 - 471. Reading, discussion, and essay writing. We will look at famous cases that have affected and clarified the freedom of the press right given in the Amendments to the Consitiution.

JA 8 A HISTORY: April 20th to 24th
This week we begin our Unit on the "Cold War". MONDAY: We will look again at the division of Europe after World War II and also the invasion of Korea by the Soviets just before the bombing of Hiroshima. Then we will watch a film on the Koren War, known as "The Forgotten War." We will compile a list of facts that we should know about this war. There will be a quiz on this list on Tuesday.
TUESDAY: Quiz and reading on the Korean War.
WEDNESDAY: A special topic for today only, EARTH DAY. We will watch videos, have discussions, and planned activities.
THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Finish any material on the Korean War and begin the topic of "A Divided Germany and Berlin" which will include the Berlin Wall.
