JA 7 HISTORY: Jan.30th - Feb. 3rd

This week we continue our study of some of the famous battles of the Civil War. This week we will examine and discuss the Battle of Shiloh, Antietam, and Vicksburg. The tide of the war is shifting in favor of the North or Union.

MONDAY - TUESDAY: The Battle of Shiloh. Readings, discussions, and videos segments. We will watch the battle play out on an animated map website as well. http://civilwaranimated.com/ click on Western Front - Shiloh.

WEDNESDAY - THURSDAY: The Battle of Antietam and the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Readings, discussions, and there will be questions on both Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation that will be due on Friday. Some time will be given in class on Thursday to work on them. They will be due at the end of the block on Friday.
FRIDAY: Work time to complete the assignment on Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation.

This Month's Character Trait is DISCERNMENT

Discernment comes from a combination of two Latin words dis, meaning “off, away,” and cernere, meaning “to distinguish, separate, sift.” Discernment is the ability to sift through information, distinguish fact from fiction, and figure out what it all means.
For example, a discerning person sees beautiful fall colors in mid-September and realizes that the trees have turned color early most likely because of a dry summer or early frosts. They see the outward signs and discern the inward causes.
Dis•cern•ment n 1: the act of revealing insight and understanding 2: the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure.
